We are hiring a postdoctoral research fellow to work with a collaborative team of researchers from Carleton University, the University of Ottawa, and other institutions and allied agencies. We are particularly interested in candidates with interest and experience in the human dimensions of conservation science and/or the social sciences (such as, but not limited to, environmental sociology, knowledge mobilization and exchange, science and technology studies, governance, environmental policy, and/or studies of expertise and experience). The research fellow will play a key role in overseeing fieldwork, analyzing and synthesizing data, and preparing manuscripts for publication. There will be significant interaction with government partners and stakeholders. The position is available to be filled starting April 2019, with some flexibility in start date, and is expected to be of two year duration. Renewal after the first year is contingent upon performance and budget. The research fellow will be mentored by Dr. Steven Cooke at Carleton University and Dr. Nathan Young at the University of Ottawa. Duties, selection criteria and application details are outlined below.
Position Duties: 1. Conduct and publish research on issues relating to application of new knowledge to complex conservation and management issues such as those that relate to stakeholder perceptions and priorities, knowledge exchange and mobilization, and policy and management implications; 2. Work with colleagues and graduate students on the development of joint research projects, including fieldwork, analysis and synthesis of data, and preparation of manuscripts for publication; and, 3. Coordinate meetings and workshops that bring together academic and non-academic stakeholders to communicate findings and engage in knowledge co-production activities.
Selection Criteria: 1. PhD in the area of ecology, environmental studies, public policy, conservation science, sociology, and/or related social sciences; 2. Expert knowledge in one or more aspects of the human dimensions of conservation science or resource management; and/or in empirical social sciences; 3. Ability to establish effective relationships between academics and the wider community; 4. Strong technical skills in one or more of the following areas: quantitative social science data analysis /qualitative social science data analysis; and 5. Knowledge of resource management and governance systems in Canada.
