I am interested in how human interactions impact the health of fishes. During my Masters, I sought to understand how changes in watershed-scale land use may influence energy dynamics and parasitism in small stream fishes. My interest in anthropogenic stressors, parasitology, and disease ecology lead me to my PhD research, which focuses on the interactions between catch and release fisheries and disease in migrating salmonids across Canada. Specifically, I am interested in how individual variations in microbe loads can predict the severity of fisheries impacts, and whether or not changes in gene expression associated with immune function, senescence, and osmoregulation influences these interactions.
