FECPL members attend World Recreational Fisheries Conference in Brazil

Early this September, Shannon Bower, Robert Lennox, Jake Brownscombe, and Steven Cooke attended the 7th World Recreational Fisheries Conference (WRFC), an international conference held every 3 years. The theme this year was “Change, transformation and adaptation in recreational fisheries.”

There was much focus on development of the recreational fishing sector in emerging economies and the developing world. This included the need for applied tools for generating data to support evidence-based management and the need to incorporate multi-disciplinarity (e.g. social and economic perspectives) into recreational fisheries research. The FECPL crew presented on a number of subjects including multiple topics on catch-and-release science, rapid assessments and identification of knowledge gaps and management needs in developing recreational fisheries.
