SOUP COMPETITION WARMS UP COOKE LAB

On Monday, February 3rd, the Cooke lab gathered together for a hearty lunch of soup and healthy dose of competition. Who would win bragging rights for Best Soup Concoction?

A total of 14 soups were entered into the contest, with not a single recipe overlap. From exotic Coconut Mulligatawny and heart-stopping Potato-Bacon-Leek to classic Corn Chowder and tasty Butternut Squash, we filled up our bowls over and over again.

Satiated, we each put in our top three choices.

And the winners of the 2014 Soup-off are (drumroll…):

3rd place – Chicken with ricotta-dumplings soup (Jon Midwood)
2nd place – Thai chicken curry (Steven Cooke)
1st place – Black bean soup (Dan Struthers)

Congratulations to the three finalists and to Dan for the Best Soup Concoction! Thank you to everyone who took the time to make a soup and transport it to Carleton in subzero temperatures. It was a great gathering and we’ll see you again next year!
